Microsemi XLi IEEE1588 GrandMaster

IEEE 1588 Grandmaster Clock supports PTP version 2 and delivers nanosecond time and frequency synchronisation across standard Ethernet Networks.
Description

Combining IEEE 1588 Precise Time Protocol version 2 with hardware time stamping, the Microsemi XLi IEEE 1588 Grandmaster Clock provides the complete end-to-end sync solution for your Ethernet network.

The XLi IEEE 1588 Grandmaster Clock with GPS (Global Positioning System) reference supports the new Precise Time Protocol (PTP) version 2 protocol that enables accurate synchronisation over Ethernet LANs, offers users the ability to synchronise clocks within better than one hundred nanoseconds accuracy using only a network connection.

End-to-End Sync Solution
Combined with the optional Symmetricom TimeMonitor software to collect and analyse time interval data and Symmetricom’s SyncSwitch TC100 IEEE 1588 enabled switches, the XLi IEEE 1588 Grandmaster (PTP v2) is the complete end-to-end solution that transfers time and frequency across networks and measures the PTP performance.

Ultra Precise, Extremely Accurate
The XLi IEEE-1588 Grandmaster contains a dedicated 1588 time stamp processor. Operating at 100 Base-T line speed with deep time stamp packet buffers, the XLi IEEE-1588 Grandmaster delivers better than 50 Nanosecond RMS time stamp accuracy to UTC. The XLi IEEE 1588 Grandmaster can accurately synchronise many 1588 slave clocks by sending out periodic Sync & Follow-up messages and processing over 50 delay requests per second.

New Oscillator and Software Options
Improve the stability and holdover performance of the XLi IEEE 1588 Grandmaster by upgrading the internal oscillator to an ovenised crystal oscillator (OCXO), high stability OCXO, or a rubidium oscillator. More versatile than its predecessor, the new PTP v2 Grandmaster offers a Network Time Server (NTP) option as well as Frequency Measure and Programmable Pulse Output options.

Time Code Options
As more people discover the cost effective value of PTP, more will want to have more time code options. New time code inputs for version 2 are IRIG A, B; and NASA 36. IEEE 1344 is available for input and output. There is also a multicode option module for generating a wide range of time codes.

Characterise network element induced time transfer errors
Configured with two 1588 ports, The XLi Grandmaster can operate as two independently configured Grandmasters or as a Grandmaster and a slave to assess PTP performance. The XLi IEEE-1588 Grandmaster uses time interval analysis to assess time transfer accuracy across the network and characterise the time degradation effects of delay and jitter introduced by any network element or topology before deployment.

Collect and Analyse Data
For quick and easy computation, use Symmetricom’s TimeMonitor software to collect and analyse Time Interval data from the XLi Grandmaster. Statistics, histograms, mean time interval error charts, and much more are quickly and easily computed on small to extremely large datasets.

Cost-Effective
When you synchronise your time with nanosecond accuracy through your Ethernet, you gain major cost savings versus using a separate time distribution network. Using IEEE 1588 enabled switches like the SyncSwitch TC100 with the XLi Grandmaster, your time distribution can be deployed over your existing data network.
