Data Edge’s €500k deal with telecoms revolutionary Intune Networks

Intune’s next generation network gets Data Edge’s ‘Quality of Service’ seal of approval Data Edge partnership has fast-tracked Intune’s market launch by several months Intune has invested €30m in developing its technology to target the €8 billion global metro telecommunications market.

Dublin, 11 March, 2009. Data Edge, Ireland’s largest network and application performance management company, today announced a two year deal worth more than €500k with Intune Networks. Intune is the world-leading Irish developer of next generation network infrastructure. Data Edge is testing and optimising the performance of Intune’s telecoms infrastructure to help it fulfill its promise of changing the way the world experiences the internet.

Intune Networks has invented a very efficient optical transport and switch network that provides almost limitless bandwidth with guaranteed service quality. Intelligent networks are crucial when trying to distribute large data volumes and deliver quality levels similar to broadcast formats like HDTV. With Intune’s technology, home users will soon be able to watch television services such as You-Tube in high definition and in real time. Business users can benefit from IPTV, high definition video conferencing, and significantly higher bandwidth services. €30m has been invested in Intune to-date, as it targets the global metro telecommunications market, estimated at €8 billion.

As Ireland’s leading provider of network performance management tools, Data Edge was chosen by Intune Networks to help fast-track the development of its product by several months during its rigorous performance testing and optimisation phase. Using Spirent Communications’ technology, Data Edge ran exhaustive measurements of bandwidth capacity and latency – down to the nanosecond. These are critical determinants in the end-user experience of the Internet, and crucial components of Intune’s competitive advantage.

Tim Fritzley, CEO, Intune Networks, said, “We believe that our technology has the potential to transform the global telecommunications market. There’s been enormous interest in our company over the last few years, reaching a crescendo in recent months as we prepare for our launch. In partnership with Data Edge, we’ve been able to prove the quality of our service, accelerate our market readiness, and reduce the capital and operational costs of development.”

Paul Phelan, CTO, Data Edge, said, “This has been one of the most challenging and rewarding projects in our twenty year history. Intune has made one of the most important communications technology advancements in a decade. It will help in the repositioning of Ireland as a hotbed of innovation and investment for global IT research and development.”
